About Aikido

What is aikido

Aikido lessen in Leiden

Aikido is a modern Japanese self-defense martial art that evolved from traditional warrior arts. It features flowing, graceful movements. It aims to blend an attacker’s energy (Ki) with the defender’s, maintaining harmony (Ai) without the need for physical strength. The goal is for the defender to gain control without harming the attacker.

Self-Defense & Stress Management

Aikido training helps develop both mental and physical strength. It teaches practitioners to handle aggression and stress calmly, allowing them to respond effectively even under pressure. Rather than relying on brute strength, Aikido focuses on inner calm, balance, and the efficient use of energy.

Insight & Growth

Aikido has no competitive element. It’s about learning and applying martial principles. Practitioners work together in a cooperative environment built on respect. This non-competitive nature promotes personal development and health, making Aikido suitable for all ages and abilities.
